Kickstart Week One: 7 Day Water Intake Challenge

When it comes to taking care of our health, we tend to complicate things. Don't we? A few simple steps can go a long way to make today healthier than yesterday and pave the way for healthy living tomorrow. One easy way out is drinking sufficient quantity of water. It is the main component of the human body and also the best drink to beat the heat.

Adequate and regular water consumption plays an important role in maintaining a healthy body. Lack of water can lead to dehydration, which can drain your energy and make you tired. Even a minor drop in hydration status of our body can result in cells not functioning properly, resulting in slower metabolism. Low water intake leads to bloating and poor digestion, while optimum hydration status helps in maintaining muscle mass, as muscles carry 90% of water.

In short, higher the muscle mass, better the burning capacity and less the cramping.

Proper water consumption also ensures better functioning of kidneys, enhances blood circulation, maintains the body temperature and boosts memory due to better flow of blood to the brain.

As we start off with more activities, our body's waterREQUIREMENT will increase. So this is how the Water Intake Challenge of our week one fitness plan will be beneficial.

As part of this weekly challenge, the aim should be to consume liquids like butter milk, soya milk, vegetable juices, soup and low-fat milk or water every 30 minutes.

it is pertinent to mention that water should be made the most integral part of the daily routine. Ensure that the body is properly hydrated before the start of the daily workout regimen, to minimise the risk of dehydration during exercise.

On a daily basis, aim to drink one or two glasses of neem water (soaking neem leaves in water in a copper vessel the previous night) after waking up and progressively increase liquid intake. Adding flavors to drinks by squeezing a few fruits into it to make it refreshing. Lemonades are highly recommendable after daily workouts.
